Everything you need to know about Crystals
Crystals have been used around the world and throughout the ages for their energetic properties. Today with the world growing faster and more technology-based, it has never been easier to find New, interesting and glamorous gems to adorn your home and body. But how do you use them? How do you choose? These are my tips for getting started with a crystal collection, and the most important, how to manage it.
How to choose which gem to buy?
When we are selling gems, we are usually asked by people which ones we recommend for them. In our experience, choosing a crystal is all intuition. You may not actually feel the energy from an Emerald, but our bodies naturally pick up the subtle vibrations these stones put off. The geometric molecular structure of each crystal determine the vibration speeds. Now, there are even scientific studies dedicated to measuring these frequencies.
Generally, my first suggestion is to walk around the store, and pick up as many as possible(ask before doing so). People are naturally drawn to certain stones. You may not know why but when the right one is in your hand, you will know. There are, however, some great gems I would recommend for any collection.
Selenite is a fantastic energy cleanser. It is great to grab it after a long day of work. It is also perfect for cleaning the energy of any other gems you have at home.
Quartz in its many forms is another gem that packs an energetic punch that matches it’s amazing look. Clear quartz is an energy cleanser and amplifier, Smoky Quartz targets only negative energy and Lithium quartz has a calming energy. Have fun feeling the gems for yourself, and you would be surprised at what you choose!
A Stone for Every Situation
Certain stones work with certain energies, so you will benefit more in different areas of your house or body. If you find yourself doing certain things with certain crystals, carry on. Remeber, its all about intuition – there will always be a reason why you may feel drawn to do what you’re doing with the gem! Here are some that I recommend...
Selenite. Its cleansing properties is a must have for the bedroom, especially for those who suffer from insomnia or nightmares. Keep pieces around the bed itself, or even on the wall, to filter out bad dreams and calm a buzzing mind.
Citrine is a confidence and prosperity stone. It works well in an office, workplace, or studio. If you know already know the Feng Shui of your place, position it in your money corner!
If you’re prone to procrastination, Jasper Mookaite helps, by combating the wandering mind. Blue Apatite is great helping one set realistic goals and meet them. Optimize work productivity by placing three garnets on your desk.
It’s helpful to remember that stones with vibrant colours may fade when kept in direct sunlight for long periods of time, and they will definitely get dusty! Before you give it a bath, make sure your stone isn’t water soluble!
Other Ways To Use Minerals
If the goal of your collection is to actively work with stones, there’s a lot of proactive ways to play around with them. Meditating with stones is an incredibly powerful method. Set the stone next to you, or even better, lie down and place the stone on your body as you meditate. It is worth noting that some people are more sensitive to a stone’s energy, and it is important to know it’s properties well.
Some minerals, like Danburite or Celestite, offer a much gentler energy than others, while still being very spiritually oriented.
Mineral collectors may use a little medicine bag to carry their stones around, others might carry them in their pockets, handbags, or wherever!
A good way to acquaint yourself with stones is to lay down and place the stone somewhere on your body and lay with it for a few minutes.
Keep them Clean!
When you first bring stones home, they will benefit from an energetic cleaning. Our favourite way is a good salt bath. Use sea salt and place the bowl in the sunlight, or under the moonlight, and let the stone sit overnight. When it comes out it will be energetically clean and ready for you.
Some minerals are slightly water soluble, and it’s worth noting before you bring them home! Selenite, fibrous Malachite, mica, and iron pyrite do NOT like water. For these stones, we’d recommend an energetic cleaning using sage, palo santo, or selenite itself.
Beyond anything else, collecting crystals should be fun, enriching, and interesting. Get out and experience whatever you can, and see for yourself which gems are right for you!
